"Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion."                                                                       -bell hooks

About Desiree

I’m Desireé Catalano, MSW, CSWA. I am a therapist, a healing movement facilitator and integrator of fragments. My therapeutic work has evolved through a lifelong study of meaningful connections. Somatic-informed, Dialectical Behavior, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Attachment,

Expressive-based and Acceptance and Commitment therapies inform my clinical framework. My approach is rooted in trauma-processing. My nature is collaborative, responsive, and emotionally attuned to your needs. This may enact nurturance, guidance, and/or creating a safe container for your own process to be revealed.

I’m here to facilitate your growth, healing, and liberation, in each and all of the collective moments that I am so honored to share with you. My goal is to speak to the parts of you that long to come to life and be seen. Maybe you’re here because you want to figure that out? Or, maybe you know exactly who you are, but you’re dizzy from running around in the same circles that keep you from showing up as the whole, complex and exceptional person that you are.

Through active self-compassion and a harmonious therapeutic alliance, we can build a stable foundation for those questions, thoughts and feelings to land. You are wise and you know yourself better than anyone. Even if you lose touch with that wisdom. I don’t assume that I’m here to teach you anything that you don’t already know. I aim to help you to remember your innate power when the chaotic and confusing parts of life distract you from your deepest self.

I am especially passionate about working with caregivers. As with lived experience of multigenerational care-giving who also found their path in  helping professions, this is very very close to my heart.

Caregiving can be expressed in so many ways, and is often associated with:

parents, children, partners, and families of people with long term health conditions, medical professionals, teachers, mental and behavioral health workers, and anyone who bears the weight, burden, and responsibility of supporting others.

'The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.'  -Albert Camus

I was raised within the gritty, insular, blue/pink-collar trenches of the just out of reach socially-progressive, academically-elite, historic and wealthy Boston, Massachusetts. I grew up on both sides of the system, slipped through the cracks, and engage from that “sweet spot of trauma”. That fuels my practice with utmost positive regard, radical love, humor, and just enough protective factors to keep me moving forward. Tenacity is my super-power.

My professional career bloomed in the early 2000’s when I studied and began to practice holistic health modalities, Yoga, Massage and Bodywork. Later branching off into the studies and application of Nutrition, Medical, Dietetics, and fitness instruction through the lens of Body Trust and Health At Every Size. This would later blossom into a rich understanding of trauma and healing within the body, mindfulness, neurobiology and somatic-based psychotherapy.

I embrace abolitionist social justice, anti-racist activism, gender-inclusivity, sex-positivity, neurodiversity, climate activism, harm-reduction, anti-oppression, Body Trust, decolonized and trauma-sensitive-yoga, and a deep fascination with the vast complexities which simultaneously connect and isolate us all.

When I’m not in the therapist’s seat, I find a cozy spot on the client's couch. I am a mother, daughter, sister, partner, and friend. I teach yoga and the occasional fitness class, keep a trial and error based garden, attempt home improvement projects, and trade licks for tummy rubs with my floofy dog, Hector “the Protector”.
