“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”
         -   Viktor E. Frankl

Hello, my name is Talia Jackson. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Oregon and hold a certificate as an EMDR trained clinician. I received my Masters in Social Work from Smith College School for Social work in 2013. My work experience has been in a community mental health setting providing individual therapy to adults of all ages, experiencing a wide range of mental health issues.

As a therapist I am collaborative and client-centered. My aim is to build a therapeutic relationship that assists individuals in healing, having the skills to cope with distress, improve functioning, and identifying areas of desired life change. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques such as Motivational Interviewing, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindful Self-compassion. My goal is to assist individuals in restoring a sense of safety and inner and outer regulation that allows them to move through the world with more ease and comfort. I also assist individuals in identifying negative beliefs rooted in past experiences that have become barriers and to restore a sense of self that is less critical and more compassionate.

I believe that suffering is not a competition, but rather a part of the human experience. I also believe in a person’s ability to heal and change. My work focuses on kindling and igniting an individual’s powerful ability to heal, learn, and grow.

I am a paraplegic due to a spinal cord injury sustained during an auto accident. I have deep personal experience with suffering and healing, which allows me to empathize with and to normalize the experiences of others. I have also experienced the strength of human resilience, which allows me help foster hope and highlight points of resiliency in others.

As social worker and paraplegic who uses a wheelchair I am committed to access in all forms. I am committed to facilitating access to mental health services for people of all abilities, race, gender, sexuality, and socioeconomic status.

Areas I enjoy working include:

  • PTSD

  • Trauma

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Panic/phobia

  • Disability

  • Self esteem
