Teresa is a Portland-born Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, who sees one’s relationship to Self as the foundation for all other relationships. She provides a relaxed therapeutic environment, often incorporating humor, where she can work collaboratively with clients to identify and build upon existing strengths, deepen insights and mind/body connections, and increase motivation to move forward on a preferred path. Her direct, interactive approach, combined with deep compassion, respectfully supports her clients’ healing process, inviting them more fully into the present and more fully into their embodied, authentic Self.

Teresa has a long history of supporting those living in the margins of our society in a variety of settings, from the industrially urban to the deeply wild, and actively welcomes dialogue regarding the impact of oppression on one’s identity, resilience and emotional well-being. As a systems trained therapist, she supports individuals, couples and families who’ve survived abuse, trauma, loss, and relational disconnection, including death, divorce and addiction. Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating philosophies provide the foundations for her work with those struggling with eating disorders and disordered eating. Years spent working in school, community and medical settings has afforded her additional experience supporting those with ADHD, diabetes and other chronic illnesses, and clients aiming to develop a healthier, sex-positive sexuality and sexual health at any life stage. She especially enjoys working with couples (regardless of how the relationship is defined), and families, including parent-child interactive therapy and parental coaching with birth, foster and adoptive families. Teresa has served the LGBTQ community for over twenty years and regularly provides therapeutic support to queer couples.

In addition to her clinical work, Teresa has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Portland State University, Lewis and Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling and Portland Community College. Her research, publications and conference presentations have primarily centered around women’s embodied mental health, gendered perspectives and our human/wilderness connections. Outside of work, you can most often find Teresa making a mess of projects at her urban permaculture homestead, making music with her kids and community, making waves on the water (outrigger canoe, dragonboats, and surfing are her jam), or cuttin’ a rug whether in town or on a trail.
