Hi, My name is Liam Shannon (He/Him). I am a licensed professional counselor dedicated to helping people feel less overwhelmed and controlled by their emotions. I received my masters degree in mental health counseling from Lewis & Clark in 2018. Over the past 6 years, I have provided counseling to a wide variety of clients, including those experiencing difficulty regulating emotions, chronic suicidal ideation, trauma, depression, and anxiety.

There are so many factors that influence how we experience and respond to the world. People are complex. They don’t always fit into neat little boxes.  This means change and healing can look different for each individual. I believe a combination of flexibility, collaboration, and non-judgement are essential to the counseling relationship.

I take an integrative approach to counseling, often drawing on my background in dialectical behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. Through these approaches, we can notice how we fall into cycles of thoughts and emotions that keep us feeling stuck and start to disrupt these cycles. By accepting and valuing how old patterns of thinking and feeling have helped us to survive and being open to new perspective, we can start to avoid the traps of self-blame and hopelessness to connect with what is important to us.

Areas of Interest:

  1. LGBTQIA+ related issues

  2. Emotion dysregulation

  3. Suicidal thoughts

  4. Trauma

  5. Depression

  6. Anxiety

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
