Hello, my name is Annie Chen, a first-generational immigrant with an international student background. I am a licensed professional counselor associate practicing in the state of Oregon. I have a master's degree in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy from Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling.  In recent years, I mainly served the Asian immigrant community in the tri-county area.

It is never easy to walk alone in the dark, feeling lost and helpless. I am glad that you are here seeking help and support. I hope that you will acknowledge and appreciate your courage, your constant efforts and trying hard to make positive changes in life. I believe we all know the best in our lives and are resourceful problem solvers. However, in the difficult times, the distress, the pain, and the darkness have limited our vision of who we are and what we are capable of, and also made us forget our strengths and resilience. Thus, when we work together, I am aiming at creating a relatively safe and trusting environment and accompanying you on the journey, to assist you to expand the vision of yourself, bring back hope, and obtain a good set of tools to make changes and reach your preferred future in life.

My therapeutic approach is client-oriented, system-based, strength-based, practicality- and self-compassion-focused, through the lens of social equity, trauma-informed care, and cultural awareness. I utilized a variety of interventions in therapy based on the client's needs and suitability, including but not limited to mindfulness practice, solution- focused narrative therapy, motivation interviewing, exposure therapy, structural family therapy, and other creative interventions, such as game therapy and activity therapy.

My areas of interest include:

  • Depression, suicidal ideation

  • Procrastination, anxiety

  • Relational issues

  • Trauma/PTSD due to life event(s)

  • Issues related to cultural adaptation

  • Issues related to life stage transitions

  • Issues related to boundary setting

  • Issues with lack of self-worth and/or self-care
