Hi, I’m AJ (she/her), and I believe that each person carries an innate wisdom within themselves. I don't fit in. Nobody gets me. I'm too much. I'm never enough. It will never get better.
I help the sensitive, stuck, lonely and scared individual soothe their nervous system and stop
reacting to the negative beliefs, memories and systems that hold them back from living
authentically with peace and satisfaction.
If you are ready to learn how to feel more at ease with others or with yourself, I may be a
good fit.
My style is warm and casual. I am curious, collaborative, compassionate and balanced. I
believe that change is inevitable. I care strongly about creating a just, inclusive and kind world
and provide a safe and affirming space. I am rooted in person-centered and feminist theory. When appropriate and useful, we can see what works for you from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) and EMDR. I can teach parenting, coping and ADHD skills and write Gender Affirming Care letters.
I hold a counseling license to provide therapy to folks in Missouri or Colorado (online in either,
and limited in-person appointments on Saturdays only in Kansas City, MO). I've earned my
Masters in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis on families and couples following a
Bachelors in Human Development and Family Studies. I've had the privilege of meeting
young children, families, teens, young adults and mature adults where they are and walked
with them to their goals. I've heard them and walked with them in residential settings, the
court system, the child protective services system, the school system, community mental
health clinics and private practice. I've gone on this journey with folks from all neighborhoods,
cultural backgrounds, families, beliefs, illnesses, experiences and traumas. I worked for 30
years as a parent aide and educator, foster parent, home educator and substitute teacher and
now 5 years as a therapist.
When I’m not in session, you can find me collecting-- books, birds on my life list, rocks and
minerals....
My friend and the great philosopher Winnie The Pooh said, I always get to where I’m going by
walking away from where I have been. I am ready to meet you right where you are, listen
deeply, and walk alongside as you find who you really are. Let's go.
