Neurodiversity-affirming therapy

Support that honors different ways

of thinking, sensing, and being.

Neurodivergent people often spend years adapting to systems and expectations that were not designed with their nervous systems in mind. You may feel misunderstood, exhausted from masking, overwhelmed by sensory input, or unsure how to advocate for your needs.

At Health Allies Counseling, we offer neurodiversity-affirming therapy for adults who want support without being pathologized — therapy that recognizes neurological differences as natural variations of the human experience, not deficits to be fixed.

Our Approach to healing

Bridge In Forest

1

What we mean by neurodiversity

Neurodiversity is the understanding that brains and nervous systems naturally vary. Neurodivergent identities may include (but are not limited to):

  • Autism

  • ADHD

  • Sensory processing differences

  • Learning differences

  • Giftedness

  • Tourette’s

  • Brain differences related to trauma or chronic stress

Many people identify as neurodivergent without a formal diagnosis — and that identity is valid.

2

Common experiences of neurodivergent adults

Neurodivergent adults often seek therapy for challenges that arise from navigating a neurotypical world, such as:

  • Chronic burnout or exhaustion

  • Sensory overwhelm or shutdown

  • Masking and loss of identity

  • Anxiety, depression, or self-criticism

  • Difficulty with boundaries or communication

  • Executive functioning challenges

  • Feeling “too much” or “not enough”

  • Relationship or workplace stress

  • Late diagnosis or self-realization grief

  • Trauma from invalidation or misunderstanding

These experiences are not personal failures — they are often the result of unmet needs and systemic mismatch.
