All about Geoff
Hi, I'm Geoff Hilsabeck (he/him), I’m an individual therapist working with teens and
adults. I also facilitate DBT skills groups. I came to this work after teaching English in
high schools and universities for twenty years.
I believe good therapy is rooted in trust and that it builds on the many strengths you
bring with you to treatment. My number one job as a therapist is to create an
environment that feels safe and non-judgmental where you can find the freedom you
need to figure out who you are and what kind of life you want.
I am a deeply curious person with a strong desire to be useful to others. I want to know
your story, and I want to help you write its next chapter. To that end, I will always listen
closely to you with humility and compassion. I will bring lightness when lightness is
called for and weight when weight is what’s needed. I agree with the writer James
Baldwin that “not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed
until it is faced.” I am not afraid to go with you wherever you need to go during our
conversations together.
My therapeutic approach has foundations in the following treatment methods: DBT
(Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), mindfulness-based therapies (including Mindfulness-
Based Stress Reduction), and psychodynamic psychotherapy. I have worked in partial
hospitalization and intensive outpatient settings, in schools, and in prisons and jails. I
help people build the skills they need to act in healthy and effective ways, manage their
emotions in ways that feel good rather than bad, and develop and maintain healthy
relationships.
Our north star in this work will always be the vision you have of your life worth living.
I’m a cis-gender man, a spouse and parent, a Quaker, and a poet. I love old movies
(and some new ones). Please feel free to reach out with any questions. I would love to
hear from you.
